Greenwich Killing Time

Kinky Friedman: Greenwich Killing Time (USA 1986)

From the Publisher:
Renowned country singer and songwriter Kinky Friedman has now written a very hip, very contemporary murder mystery set in New York's Greenwich Village.

In Greenwich Killing Time, a street-smart country singer, who just happens to be named Kinky, turns detective to help his best friend, Mike McGovern, beat a murder rap.

Kinky the detective has a strong relationship with his cat, gets into trouble for smoking cigars in public places, looks askance at most of the human race, and has a penchant for inventive language.

McGovern, a reporter for the Daily News, once wrote a story about Kinky headlined COUNTRY SINGER PLUCKS VICTIM FROM MUGGER. When McGovern finds a dead man lying on the floor in the apartment across the hall from his own, with a bullet hole in his head and eleven long-stemmed roses in his hand, it's Kinky he calls.

When he calls again, this time from the Sixth Precinct, to say the cops have found the gun in his apartment, Kinky is mildly alarmed. He knows that McGovern, a gentle, good-natured man who once combed his hair before meeting a racehorse, couldn't have killed anyone.

But when Kinky finds a receipt for a dozen roses in McGovern’s apartment, he's not too sure. He sets about solving this bizarre mystery in his own inimitable Kinky way.

Kinky Friedman has written and recorded four albums of country music. He has recently completed the score for the upcoming Broadway musical comedy God's Other Son, with a book by Don Imus. He attended the University of Texas at stin and served two years in the Peace Corps the jungles of Borneo. Kinky Friedman has cats: Cuddles, Dr. Scat, and Lady. They do their time between New York City and the Texas hill country.
