Agatha Raisin and Love, Lies and Liquor

M.C. Beaton: Agatha Raisin and Love, Lies and Liquor (UK 2016)

From the Publisher:
Sea, sand - and the slammer for Agatha!
Agatha Raisin thinks she's in for a treat when her ex-husband James Lacey invites her on holiday but - horrors! - his idea of an idyllic break is the small, run-down resort of Burryhill-on-Sea. And from there on things go from bad to worse, so when a fellow guest in their hotel is found murdered, Agatha herself is chief suspect - and has to solve this case from a locked police cell!

Praise for M.C. Beaton:

'Agatha is like Miss Marple with a drinking problem, a pack-a-day habit and major man lust. In fact, I think she could be living my dream life' -- Entertainment Weekly

Love, Lies and Liquor

M.C. Beaton: Love, Lies and Liquor (USA 2007)

From the Publisher:
OLD HABITS DIE HARD
Agatha Raisin is lonely. Busy as she is with her detective agency and the meetings of the Carsely Ladies' Society, she still misses her ex-husband, James Lacey. So when he suddenly resurfaces and invites her on holiday at a surprise location, she's ready to go yesterday. With visions of a romantic hideaway in Italy or the Pacific dancing in her head, Agatha sets off with James to...Snoth-on-Sea, in Sussex. While James may have fond memories of boyhood holidays there, the once-grand Palace Hotel is in shambles and freezing cold as are fellow guests and newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Jankers, who pick a fight with Agatha one night. Just as she and James prepare to flee to warmer climes, Geraldine Jankers is found dead on the beach strangled with Agatha's scarf. So much for holiday fantasies: For Agatha, trouble has a way of following her even when romance does not...

"Beaton has a winner in the irrepressible, romance-hungry Agatha." -- Chicago Sun-Times

Agatha Raisin and Love, Lies and Liquor

M.C. Beaton: Agatha Raisin and Love, Lies and Liquor (UK 2007)

From the Publisher:
Sand, sea - and a cell for Agatha!
Agatha Raisin thinks she's in for a treat when her ex-husband James Lacey invites her on a holiday, but -- horror! -- his idea of an idyllic break is the small, run-down resort of Snoth-on-Sea. And from there on, naturally things go from bad to worse. When a fellow guest in their hotel is found murdered, Agatha herself becomes a suspect -- and it looks as if she will be solving this particular case from the confines of a prison cell!

Praise for the Agatha Raisin series
'Sharp, witty, hugely intelligent, unfailingly entertaining, delightfully intolerant and oh so magnificently non-pc, M.C. Beaton has created a national treasure.' -- Anne Robinson
'Clever red herrings and some wicked unfinished business guarantees that the listener will pant for a sequel.' -- The Times audio review
'The Miss Marple-like Raisin is a refreshingly sensible, wonderfully eccentric, thoroughly likeable heroine.' -- Booklist

Love, Lies and Liquor

M.C. Beaton: Love, Lies and Liquor (USA 2006)

From the Publisher:
AGATHA RAISIN IS LONELY. Busy as she is with her detective agency and the meetings of the Carsely Ladies' Society, she still misses her ex-husband, James Lacey, so she welcomes his return to the cottage next door with her usual triumph of optimism over experience -- especially when he invites her on holiday at a surprise location that was once very dear to him. With visions of a romantic hideaway in Italy or the Pacific dancing in her head, Agatha goes off happily with James to... Snoth-on-Sea, in Sussex.

While James may have fond memories of boyhood holidays there, Snoth-on-Sea has seen better days, as has the once-grand Palace Hotel, now run-down and tacky and freezing cold. Nor do the other guests have much to recommend them, especially the brassy honeymoon couple, Mr. and Mrs. Jankers, who pick a fight with Agatha in the dining room. But trouble has a way of following Agatha even if romance does not: Just as she and James are preparing to flee to warmer climes, Geraldine Jankers is found dead on the beach -- strangled with Agatha's scarf. So much for Agatha's holiday fantasies: Not only is it time to put her detective skills to work, but the police are not even sure that she'll be allowed to leave town.

M.C. Beaton: Love, Lies and Liquor. An Agatha Raisin Mystery. St. Martin's Minotaur, ISBN: 0312349106 (September, 2006), 231 p., $22.95.
